October 3rd -14th

During the month of October, students have continued to learn how to describe themselves in French. This week, students learned how to describe the things they like and do not like using sentence frames. We are very fortunate to have many French books in our classroom, so students had the chance to browse books in order to find French words to add to their chart. Next steps will be to use this information in combination with other familiar French sentences to write a paragraph about themselves.

In grade 4, students learned vocabulary to describe an imaginary school. Here are a few pictures of some student work. In grade 5, students learned how to describe rooms and items in a house. Here is an example of a students dream house.  Students in grade 6 learned how to describe places in their community.Additionally, students learned how to describe the province of Alberta by learning about the animals, the flag, cities and natural regions in French.

Week 2

This week in French we continue to work on developing French vocabulary around the calendar, weather and seasons. Here is a picture of the digital calendar we will be using to start off each class. Students are learning the days of the week, months of the year, how to describe the weather and seasons.  Students also had a chance to review and learn French colours. It's important for students to know where to find common words in the classroom to use in their writing. They were given scrambled words and tasked with finding the proper spelling and word for each colour.
